Interior decorating for a luxury home, an entertainer’s dream
An Entertainer’s Dream
North Lakes
Decorating a successful business couple’s forever home upgrade. The sprawling property housed 5 bedrooms, 3 living areas and a self-contained room at the back.
Brief
In their 60s, this lovely couple wanted a ‘display look’ home, with a luxury, contemporary feel, that was still practical to live in. Entertainers, they had a very large family and needed a beautiful, functional space for babysitting grand kids, hosting gatherings and guests.
Process
- The client loved pink which inspired me to opt for a burgundy and pink colour palette. Warm, neutral tones set the scene.
- One of the lounge rooms was intended for the wife’s gatherings with girlfriends. We chose a beautifully upholstered sofa that had adjustable arms for guests to sit and sprawl out comfortably. A pink velvet accent chair added extra seating, coordinating with the custom artwork and overall theme.
- The other lounge had generous entertaining requirements, so we decided on a large, modular setting against the wall, with gorgeous burgundy velvet chairs for extra seating. We also cleverly disguised a TV by framing it as artwork.
- To accommodate functionality and practicality, we handpicked pieces that were durable and easy to clean for the living and dining areas.
- An area that would be used all the time, the outdoor space was finished with a large dining suite and lounge area for guests to relax while the grandkids enjoyed the pool.
Challenges
- Lack of furniture – The clients were upsizing to a new home which meant they didn’t have enough furniture to fill the new space. Most of their old furniture had been sold to start afresh and we needed to source staple everyday pieces as soon as possible.
- COVID-19 delays – The global pandemic also delayed a lot of the orders we placed, resulting in a drawn-out decorating process.
Outcome
Pretty in pink aka smashing! The clients absolutely loved their new home – they’ve reported that even the kids can’t wait to visit and have sleepovers. They’ve since hosted numerous family events and there’s always enough room and seating for everyone to be comfortable. Every room makes them smile and the ‘display home’ brief was successfully brought to life.
